Joey Aguilar is officially a Tennessee Vol. Some of you may be asking, “huh? I thought he had already been committed?” The UCLA/App State transfer was reported to have committed to Tennessee last week, but he has now made it official with his social media posts & signing.
Aguilar’s deal with Tennessee is reportedly close to the $1.2 million NIL package he had at UCLA. His arrival stabilizes a quarterback room that was left reeling after Iamaleava’s abrupt departure, giving the Vols a seasoned leader for their 2025 campaign. He will compete with Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre for the starting position this fall.
Amaree Abram: Vols Add “Glue Guy”
Tennessee has landed a key piece in Louisiana Tech transfer Amaree Abram, who committed to the Vols on Wednesday. The 6-foot-4 junior shooting guard chose Tennessee over James Madison, LSU, and Minnesota after a visit to Knoxville, where he felt an immediate connection to coach Rick Barnes and the program’s success since Barnes 2015 arrival.
Abram brings versatility and a strong defensive effort which is a requirement to play for Rick Barnes. During the 2024/2025 season, he averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, shooting an impressive 37.3% from three-point range with 66 made triples. With prior stops at Ole Miss and Georgia Tech, Abram has SEC experience, having started 22 games as a freshman at Ole Miss, where he averaged eight points and shot 36% from three.
On3’s Volquest interviewed Abram regarding his commitment. “I bring a lot to the table,” Abram said, “Toughness and I can be a glue guy. I could do anything that team wants. I’m a two way player that can play on the ball or off the ball. And can guard the ball pretty well or anything the team needs.”
Abram’s commitment is Tennessee’s third transfer portal addition this offseason, joining Maryland guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Vanderbilt forward Jaylen Carey. With two scholarships left to fill, the Vols are looking to potentially add one or two more guards. Abram was a much needed addition, as the Vols look to reload for another shot at another deep NCAA tourney run.
