Larry Johnson III moves on
Larry Johnson III, the 6-foot-7, 350-pound redshirt junior offensive tackle, has officially declared for the portal. The former Hutchinson Community College star played 15 games (4 in 2023 & 11 in 2024) with his most extensive playing time coming in a win against Oklahoma.
Johnson III was battling for a starting position this spring, but with 5-star Lance Heard cemented at left tackle & 5-star David Sanders fighting for the right tackle spot, it looks like the writing was on the wall for LJIII. Speculation is that Johnson wanted a guaranteed starting position, and that was not something Tennessee could not offer.
New WR name in portal
BYU All-American WR/KR Keelan Marion plans to enter the portal. In his career, Marion has 76 catches for 1,125 yards & 12. total TDs. He has 38 Kick Return attempts for 881 yards & 3 TDs with two years of eligibility remaining.
Marion tweeted out that Tennessee has offered him, and he has told Volquest’s Matt Ray he plans on taking a visit to Knoxville.
The BYU star would be a welcomed addition to the Tennessee WR room that is filled with talent but lacks experience & live snaps.
QB search still quiet
No new names have emerged in the search for a QB out of the portal. The Vols still have until Friday when the Spring portal window closes to identify & hopefully land a target. It is still up in the air as to whether they go after a guaranteed starter or a depth piece.
