Vols Add Secondary Depth
With Jermod McCoy recovering this offseason from a torn ACL, Tennessee needed to add some depth to the secondary. They got that Friday with the commitment of Colorado cornerback, Colton Hood.
Hood was one of the better players to enter the transfer portal this Spring, and Tennessee was able to win his commitment.
Playing opposite of Travis Hunter last season, Hood drew plenty of targets from teams throwing away from Heisman winner. The redshirt freshman finished the season with 24 total tackles and two interceptions.
Hood told On3’s Volquest why he chose the Vols: “Just the culture and the history about it. I mean, they got a lot of great players to come through here and just the culture. And also I like the genuineness of the coaches. Coach Heupel, coach ET, coach Banks, coach Martinez, all of them. I mean, they’re just all genuine. I just really like what they had to say about the university.”
The 6’1 and 190 pounder corner was ranked as a four-star prospect coming out of high school per On3.
Rod Clark’s Replacement
It didn’t take long for Rick Barnes to lock up an assistant coach to replace Rod Clark after he departed for Indiana. Amorrow Morgan will join Barnes’s staff after spending the last two seasons at Cal and being hired by Florida State on April 6th.
Morgan is a Memphis native who also coached at Loyola-Chicago from 2021-23, as well as South Alabama, Nicholls State, Henderson State, the University of Illinois Springfield and Our Lady of the Lake University. During his time at Cal, Morgan was described as a “relentless recruiter.”
He’ graduated from Idaho State in 2012, where he was a two-time All-Big Sky guard and a three-time team captain. He played for three years professionally in Europe and earned his master’s degree at Illinois-Springfield.
During a press conference surrounding the hire, Rick Barnes had this to say: “He is a young, energetic coach, with a sharp basketball mind who will make an impact with our program from day one. I know he will do all he can to help our players excel and that he will mesh with the strong culture we have in place.”
